I thought this was the most beneficial session of the day. I really enjoyed how the presenter made you think about all of the things you had to fit into your life and encouraged you to do some brainstorming about where things fit in, etc.

Sample workshops for your Women’s Leadership Conference, Staff Retreat, or Professional Development Program

Women Writing Wellness
This workshop will engage women in a series of activities using brief reflective writing experiences along with quotations, scenarios, small group sharing, and short readings. The goal is bringing conflicts, stresses, and feelings to greater levels of awareness and insight. Research shows that participants using such writing have measurable improvements in health and wellbeing. This workshop can be expanded into a weekly series for employees or community members.

Transforming a Culture of Complaint
Drawing upon the work of Robert Kegan and Lisa Laskow Lahey in their book, How The Way We Talk Can Change the Way We Work, this workshop will use each participant’s experience of workplace complaints to generate new motivations and potential for commitment to positive change. The activities are practical, specific, and ready for implementation tomorrow morning!

“Owning Your Own Habits”
Our habits of action and habits of thinking are often invisible to us and yet are at the root of who we are. Through a series of brief reflective writing experiences, participants will bring habits to the surface for some fresh thinking and conscious decisions about which habits to cultivate and which to diminish or even to delete.

“Balancing Acts”
This workshop is an introduction to short reflective writing practices as a strategy for integrating in a healthful manner the many sides of life. Women in particular feel caught between work demands and family responsibilities. Through brief writing experiences, feelings and frustrations can be released as new strategies and conceptual frameworks are introduced and rehearsed.

Writing Foundations and Skills for Success
This workshop is for everyone who feels a blast of anxiety when any writing task beyond a shopping list is required. There will be no red pencil, no grades, and no sniping comments during this workshop. Strategies and tools will be introduced to encourage confidence with writing tasks such as a short paragraph, a purposeful letter, a brief proposal, and other common forms. The workshop will be customized to the specific needs and requests of the participants.

“Nurturing Self-Confidence”
Where does it come from? Where does it go when it’s gone? How do I get it back? Everyone needs self-confidence AND everyone has self-confidence. In this workshop, participants will explore their own gardens of self confidence to find the wilted flowers as well as the sturdy shrubs. We will look at an eco-system of self-confidence with external and internal forces having an impact on any given day.

Writing experiences to support and nurture self-confidence will focus on revising the ways we think about confidence, finding a phrase or story to support budding new confidence growth, and developing a supportive internal conversation for situations where confidence may be challenged.

Introduction to Teams
After a brief introduction to the value and principles of achieving high performance through teams, the workshop will shift into a hands-on mode. Small teams will be formed and charged with strategic work to accomplish. During debriefing, discussion will focus on mutual accountability, complementary skills, common purpose, and team member roles (Katzenbach and Smith, The Wisdom of Teams).

“Alternative Résumé”
We are often encouraged to think “outside the box,” but rarely encouraged to deviate from the rigid form of the standard résumé. This workshop introduces participants to two alternative views of what should be in a résumé, one from Polish poet Wislawa Symborska, and another from author, Marcela Serrano. Participants will develop new guidelines for writing in this form, even if the results must be treasured in private until the rest of the world catches up.

Customized Topics
We will work with you to create custom workshops for your specific goals and needs. Contact us for more information. Editing and coaching services for individual projects are also available by appointment.
